Authorized biography of Hollywood legend Loretta Young rushed to print
ALLEN, Texas (Aug. 30) --- Screen star, TV maven and Hollywood legend Loretta Young will be featured in the only published biography of her life due to be released in October. Winner of the 1947 Best Actress Academy Award, Miss Young starred in one hundred movies and hundreds of television series' episodes spanning the golden age of Hollywood and continuing to the present. She died at age 87 in Palm Springs, Calif., earlier this month.
Joan Wester Anderson, author of the bestselling Where Angels Walk (2.5 million copies sold) is producing the account of Miss Young's life. Ms. Anderson and Miss Young had just completed collaboration on the book Forever Young: The Life, Loves, and Enduring Faith of a Hollywood Legend---The Authorized Biography of Loretta Young (Thomas More Publishing, 2000), when the actress died on Aug. 12.
The book will reveal previously undisclosed details about Miss Young's life in Hollywood, her children, and her Catholic faith which sustained her throughout her lifetime. More than 50 photographs from Miss Young's private collection will also be featured in the book.
Ms. Anderson was personally selected by the actress to write the biography a year ago. Miss Young, who had received a copy of Ms. Anderson's book, Where Angels Walk, as a gift, was so enchanted by it that she contacted Ms. Anderson about the possibility of writing her life story and faith journey. (Where Angels Walk describes the miraculous intervention of angels in people's lives). For thirty years prior to this, biographers had requested meetings with Miss Young, but she had turned most down; she had authorized only one work, and this had never been published. Nor had the Oscar and Emmy-award winning actress granted extensive interviews to magazines. Now Miss Young was ready to chronicle her remarkable life, commenting, "Who better than a person who writes about miracles to tell the story of my life?"
Forever Young is the story of that remarkable life. The book will be distributed through Ingram/Spring Arbor, Bookworld/Christian Distribution Services, and will be available in major bookstores as well as on internet sites beginning in October.
